Acne products off the shelf

Keep in mind that no matter how severe is your case of acne, the best way to start treatment, is using the softer products before graduating to stronger products slowly, trying to find the one that best meets your skins needs.

Some products for mild acne, which consists of minor blackheads and white spots, can appear anywhere but mainly occur on the nose, forehead and chin.

Cetaphil

Cetaphil is a widely used and very gentle facial cleaner that is particularly suited to early stage or mild cases of acne. It is a simple cleansing agent that does not give off a bad smell, it also does not over dry the skin it gives the skin a clean and fresh feel and appearance. It is also very inexpensive and is readily available. There are more expensive ˇ§beautyˇ¨ versions of Cetaphil produced by brand name manufactures such as Clinique, but there is no evidence that they are any more effective than cheap supermarket varieties that come as basic soaps and bottled lotions.

Benzoyl - Benzac and Proactive

Benzoyl peroxide is marketed under multiple brand names such as Benoxyl, Benzac, Desquam, Fostex, the well publicized Oxy 10 and PanOxyl the possible best known version of this chemical is Proactive . This is best suited to cases of acne that would be considered to be mild to moderate in nature. It is offered in the forms of a soap like bar, a face lotion, a liquid and as a gel. It is generally not suitable for use in pre-pubescent children under 12, it should be used once a day to start and possibly moving up to twice a day if required.

Keep on applying!

One of the frustrations, especially for teens, is that it may not appear to be having any effect for a long period, as long as 12 weeks, and often teens will abandon its use or drastically increase the amount they use after just a few days. Both these options can have adverse effects making the outbreaks of acne more severe and more frequent which prompts the teen to use more and so on. Note that around 3% of users are found to also be allergic to this chemical which will heighten the already present acne blotches.

Salicylic acid is available in dozens of branded products including Akurza Cream, Akurza Lotion, Clearasil products, Compound W products, DHS Sal Shampoo, DuoPlant Gel, Hydrisalic Gel, Ionil products, MG217 products and the well known Neutrogena products. These represent only a few of the brand variations of this chemical.

It is not just used for acne treatment it is used for all kinds of skin complaints such as warts, as in Compound W products, as well as treating birthmarks, moles and a multitude of other skin conditions. It can be very effective in clearing up acne infected areas and has a good track record. It does have multiple side effects which vary from person to person and may not occur at all, they include, fatigue, dizziness, hearing loss, nausea and diarrhoea plus many others.

If you have any problems with any of these solutions it is always advisable to consult a doctor, it is always necessary to follow the instructions fully and not to try to speed things along by increasing the dosages, this will have the opposite effect.
